This project is a six storey mixed use commercial and apartment building. We were engaged to design the facade and layout of the ground and first floor commercial, another architect was responsible for the base building and apartment design.
We developed a striking and complex geometry for the ballustrading, entry gesture and glazed terrarium stair. The project also reflected our exploration of the traditional high street and retail arcade languages prevalent in older Australian cities.
A key design move was to establish a commercial balcony at level one which relates to Lonsdale street and allowed a second tier of commercial uses to achieve a street presences, street activation and benefit from cheaper rent.
