Description: Palko Fine Grain Active Retail
Location: Braddon, ACT
Client: Syzygy
Status: COMPLETED
This vibrant new precinct brings together a community of makers, boutique retailers, and creative office uses beneath a dynamic apartment building. Designed to support smaller niche businesses, the development introduces a fine-grain network of tenancies woven along a central pedestrian street, where most shops enjoy the advantage of two addresses and a naturally engaging flow of people.
Circulation between ground and first-floor spaces is celebrated through an elevated verandah accessed via an external stair, that overlooks the street—inviting visitors upward without relying on a lift and creating an open, active exchange between levels. Crafted from a palette of concrete, recycled brick, anodised gold aluminium, black painted plate steel, and warm timber, the precinct delivers a robust yet refined urban character.
Between the buildings, two small pod tenancies activate the interstitial spaces, enriching the laneway atmosphere and encouraging exploration. The result is an intimate, walkable, and human-scaled destination that breathes life into the inner city and champions the spirit of local enterprise.
